Back To School

Hello everybody,

After giving it a lot of thought I've decided to return to school and study psychology with the goal of becoming a clinical counsellor. This decision did not come lightly, and is in fact the result of years of uncertainty and self-reflection.

Yesterday I took the first step by submitting my application to Camosun College for the upcoming September semester:

Historically I haven't been the greatest student, however I have been planning strategies to help me succeed in an academic setting over the upcoming years...

1. Time blocked study periods

The first strategy is I will dedicate 4 hours outside of class time a day (split into a pair of 2 hour windows) to studying. This time can include working on homework, or if I'm on top of that, reviewing material until I develop a deep understanding of the subject matter therein.

This process will help not only with my study habits, but my habits in general. I've struggled for a long time to adhere to set routines, but I find scheduling time blocks in my calendar spurs me into action.

2. Teach others

The second strategy is I intend to teach others what I learn about psychology as I go.

I plan on doing this both in-person (if classmates ask for help or are studying in groups), as well as by writing articles here on my website about the topics I'm learning about and my own thoughts surrounding them.
